About The Position

We are looking for a dependable and hardworking individual to join our team at The Salvation Army. This role is responsible for ensuring our facility remains clean, safe, and welcoming for all who enter. In addition to providing cleaning and basic maintenance services, you will assist with regular pick-ups of food and other supplies to support our community programs. Your work will play an important part in creating a positive environment and helping us serve those in need. Schedule & Hours: Part-time position: 28 hours per week Regular hours: Monday- Friday – 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM Schedule may be temporarily adjusted in response to weather conditions or other operational needs.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid New York State driver's license with clean driving record
  • Must have prior maintenance experience
  • Must have completed High School or Equivalent
  • Must be able to lift heavy items
  • Must have basic knowledge of tools and maintenance routines.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up outside garbage/debris around building daily as needed.
  • Ensure that side gate & dining room door is open at 8:30am.
  • Ensure that trash is emptied from all rooms and placed in dumpster daily.
  • Help to pick up, load & unload donations as needed.
  • Breakdown cardboard boxes and discard daily
  • Ensure dumpsters are locked after use.
  • Sweep and mop all hard floor surfaces on a daily basis.
  • Wash all glass surfaces as needed.
  • Wash out garbage bins on a weekly basis.
  • Clean and/or sanitize all bathroom restrooms daily (including floors, walls, doors, sinks, toilets, fixtures and partitions).
  • Replace paper supplies and soap in restrooms as needed.
  • Snow removal and salting as needed on walkways.
  • Keep back driveway clear of any debris as needed (Fall leaves, branches etc.)
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas daily.
  • Change light bulbs as needed.
  • Perform other light maintenance as needed.
  • Periodically strip, wax and buff floors as needed.
  • Set up rooms as needed.
  • Keep the janitorial room and sheds clean and in order.
  • Clean & maintain chapel weekly in preparation for Sunday church service.
  • Must keep inventory of janitorial supplies and advise Commanding Corps Officer(s) when supplies are needed.
  • The Custodian is responsible to the Corps Commanding Officer(s) to perform any additional assignments under their direction.
