About The Position

Janitor (Tracy EHP) In-Person Full-Time (40 hours per week) Position in Tracy, CA (Non-Exempt) Who We Are Ruby's Place dba Restorative Pathways (RP) is an innovative nonprofit committed to ending domestic violence, human trafficking, and violent crime through hope, advocacy and connection. Our services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rental subsidies, mental health services, substance recovery, and wrap-around services. All our services are trauma-sensitive and client-centered and are provided at no cost to our clients. All programs are low barrier. You are flexible, creative, and take initiative in handling emergencies. What qualifications are required for this position? You Are Also: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, or cleaning roles preferred. Ability to work independently and complete tasks efficiently. Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness. Ability to follow safety procedures and use cleaning equipment properly. Experience working in shelters, residential facilities, or high-traffic environments. Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation standards. In possession of a valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and be approved by RP insurance as a driver in order to drive agency vehicles. If a staff member cannot be approved by RP insurance as a driver, employment might not be able to continue. Instances where staff cannot be approved to drive will be reviewed on a case by case basis to determine if employment can continue in their role without driving agency vehicles. Items considered include but are not limited to: the shift the staff member holds and the frequency/necessity of driving during that shift, the amount of time before the staff member may be approved to drive by the insurance carrier, the availability of other staff on site to drive agency vehicles as program needs require, etc. Able to complete all required background checks. Additional requirements may be deemed necessary, including fingerprinting (Live Scan), completion of all Community Care Licensing (CCL) documents, and ability to meet CCL licensing requirements. What You Will Do The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout a 150-bed congregate shelter. This role ensures that all common areas, restrooms, sleeping areas, and facility spaces are consistently cleaned and maintained in accordance with health and safety standards. The Janitor plays a critical role in supporting the health, dignity, and well-being of participants and staff by ensuring the facility remains clean, organized, and welcoming. This position works closely with the Facility Manager, Sr. Director of Operations and program staff to address cleaning needs in a high-use, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and Sanitation Perform routine cleaning of all facility areas including sleeping areas, restrooms, common areas, offices, and program spaces.
  • Ensure restrooms are cleaned, sanitized, and stocked regularly throughout shifts.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Remove trash and recycling from all areas and ensure proper disposal.
  • Facility Upkeep Maintain cleanliness and organization of indoor and outdoor spaces, including entryways and surrounding grounds.
  • Support cleaning needs during and after meal service, programming, and high-traffic periods.
  • Address spills, hazards, and urgent cleaning needs promptly.
  • Supplies and Inventory Monitor and restock cleaning supplies, paper goods, and hygiene items as needed.
  • Notify the Facility Manager of supply needs or shortages.
  • Ensure cleaning equipment and supplies are properly stored and maintained.
  • Health and Safety Compliance Follow all cleaning and sanitation protocols in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Use cleaning products and equipment safely and in compliance with guidelines.
  • Identify and report safety concerns, maintenance issues, or unsanitary conditions.
  • Coordination and Communication Communicate regularly with the Facility Manager and program staff regarding cleaning needs and priorities.
  • Support a clean and respectful environment for participants and staff.
  • Assist with special cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Complete functional timesheets by assigned due dates in compliance with time allocations.
  • Actively participate in reflective supervision sessions.
  • Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures related to job duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
