About The Position

We are currently seeking an energetic person to join our team and perform the duties of the Janitor at our Head Start facility. Through a respectful, constructive, and energetic style guided by the objectives of the organization, the position plays an integral role in the administration of Community Action programs. The janitor position assists the Head Start team in carrying out a wide range of janitorial routines, both general and planned. The position is responsible for all janitorial duties at Head Start. As a member of the Head Start team, the janitor must be detail oriented, able to work independently with little supervision and ensure the safety and cleanliness of the property. The position must maintain confidentiality in all agency matters. This position will be a member of the Mining City Head Start #1 Local #4419,MEA-MFT,AFT,AFL-CIO.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in unsupervised work setting
  • The knowledge and abilities are usually acquired through education and experience related to janitorial functions. Various combinations of education and experience which could provide these knowledge, skills and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • The position must understand cleaning products and how to use them.
  • Must possess ability to operate and utilize equipment, tools and products associated with janitorial work.
  • Must have a certain degree of manual skill and the physical ability to perform manual duties and be able to frequently carry 25 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to carry out all janitorial duties as assigned.
  • Ability to relate well with staff, children, families, administration and the community.
  • Be adaptable to a constantly changing atmosphere and have the ability to adjust and prioritize various duties and assignments.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be insurable.
  • Will be required to submit to a criminal background check and fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working with the team to ensure that the Head Start property is kept clean and well maintained.
  • Works with the Head Start Director to ensure all regulations are complied with and that all facility (building and grounds) needs are being met and that the property is clean and well maintained and all janitorial duties are completed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for keeping the building clean according to daily work schedule (bathroom, classrooms, offices, janitor closets, foyer and gym.)
  • Mop/vac classrooms
  • Garbage out – classrooms/office
  • Vac hallways/foyer/offices
  • Sweep/mop gym – 2 times/week
  • Set up tables/chairs as needed
  • Shovel as needed
  • Keep inventory stocked in janitorial closets
  • Garbage cans/sink mats/garbage mats power washed (classroom)
  • Minor maintenance
  • Ordering janitorial supplies
  • Carpets cleaned (2 times annually) or as needed
  • Floors stripped/waxed (annually)
  • Assist with furniture moving (as needed)
  • Maintain outside of building (clean-up trash, check for hazards)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
