About The Position

The position involves cleaning and maintaining assigned areas, washrooms, and premises of an office, VA medical facility, or other government establishment buildings. The duties include a variety of cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing floors, as well as removing trash and refuse. The role requires attention to detail and the ability to maintain cleanliness in various environments, including administrative areas, canteen service dining areas, and outpatient care areas. The custodian will also be responsible for cleaning lavatories, showers, and restrooms, ensuring that all areas are sanitized and orderly.

Requirements

• Must be able to pass a standard background check and be cleared to work in a VA Medical Facility
• Military veteran preferred but not required
• Functions well around patients, staff, and visitors in a clinical setting
• Proven experience as custodian, janitor, or in a similar role
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemicals
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness
• Very good physical condition and strength
• High school diploma is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, scrub, and polish floors
• Remove chips, trash, and other refuse
• Dust equipment, furniture, or fixtures
• Polish metal fixtures or trimmings
• Provide supplies and minor maintenance services
• Clean and sanitize wash basins, mirrors, commodes, and urinals
• Clean dividers, soap/towel/paper dispensers and refill as necessary
• Clean hardware, horizontal surfaces, walls, and tiles in showers
• Damp mop floors
• Empty trash receptacles and replace liners
• Clean non-tiled walls and ceilings
• Clean canteen service dining area tables and floors
• Clean administrative area tables and floors
• Dust and clean horizontal surfaces, walls, ceilings, baseboards, and countertops
• Clean upholstered furniture and telephones with germicide
• Dust furniture and clean blinds
• Vacuum carpets and clean chairs
• Strip and refinish floors periodically
• Shampoo carpets periodically and spot clean as needed
• Clean entrances and glass inside/out
