The Program Coordinator facilitates inmate participation in community rehabilitative and therapeutic agencies, including establishing program goals, objectives, guidelines, policies, procedures, rules and regulations; and evaluating program effectiveness. This is a 'mandatory-testing' position that requires Drug Testing.

  • May supervise volunteers and instructors to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained, review and submit payroll and contract payment vouchers; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations
  • Coordinates and monitors treatment and rehabilitative programs administered by local community organizations
  • Counsels inmates and attempts to resolve identified problems on a case-by-case basis, prepares responses to requests from inmates; procures recreational items, grooming supplies and educational supplies for inmates in accordance with applicable guidelines
  • Researches prices and prepares purchase requisitions to maintain supplies
  • Assists inmate family members in completing referral assistance with property and financial transactions with inmates
  • Coordinates and monitors court ordered phone hearings and interviews
  • Authenticates, trains, and indoctrinates educational and rehabilitative service program providers regarding security requirements, monitors compliance with security guidelines
  • Coordinates program requirements with security staff and establishes appropriate screening and selection criteria for inmate participation in applicable programs
  • Develops educational program, GED, according to state regulations and guidelines
  • Develops program specifications and requests for program proposals and resources
  • Develops program policies and procedures for inmate programs and services
  • Procures and manages county contracts for inmate program services
  • Manages and monitors the GED and computer program on a daily basis
  • Provides notary services for inmates. This is a requirement of the Program Coordinator's duties. One must receive their notary certification within 90 days of employment and will be paid for by the department.
  • Receives certification as a proctor in order to facilitate GED testing utilizing the Pearson Vue program. This is a requirement of the Program Coordinator's duties. This certification must be completed within the first 10 months of employment.
  • The Program Coordinator does have full inmate contact with inmates without an officer present while in a classroom. Classrooms are monitored by cameras.
  • The Program Coordinator may receive certification in a class that is applicable to the inmates and teach the class to the inmates if a volunteer is unavailable.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
  • Three years of experience in social work, probation and parole work, or vocational rehabilitation work, one year of which was in a correctional facility
  • Certified as Notary Public must be obtained within 90 days of employment
  • Certification as a proctor must be obtained within the first 10 months of employment
  • Knowledge of correctional facility operations, principles, and practices
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Knowledge of program development and administration principles and practices
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes
  • Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation principles and practices
  • Ability to use a computer and related software applications
  • Ability to locate informational and community resources
  • Ability to plan, develop, monitor, audit, and evaluate program operations and activities
  • Ability to provide public relations
  • Ability to coordinate programs between multiple interested parties
  • Ability to solve problems, organization and flexibility
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and listening skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, inmates, etc.
