The Jail Program Coordinator is responsible for facilitating inmate participation in community rehabilitative and therapeutic programs. This role involves establishing program goals, guidelines, and evaluating program effectiveness, while also supervising volunteers and instructors. The coordinator acts as a liaison with community organizations and manages educational programs, including GED preparation, for inmates.

  • Facilitates inmate participation in community rehabilitative and therapeutic agencies.
  • Establishes program goals, objectives, guidelines, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness.
  • Supervises volunteers and instructors, prioritizing and assigning work.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and ensures staff training.
  • Reviews and submits payroll and contract payment vouchers.
  • Makes hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Coordinates and monitors treatment and rehabilitative programs administered by local community organizations.
  • Counsels inmates and resolves identified problems on a case-by-case basis.
  • Prepares responses to requests from inmates and procures necessary supplies.

  • Authenticates, trains, and indoctrinates educational and rehabilitative service program providers.
  • Coordinates program requirements with security staff and establishes screening criteria for inmate participation.
  • Serves as a liaison with community support organizations for post-incarceration referrals.
  • Develops educational programs, including GED, according to state regulations.
  • Develops program specifications and requests for proposals and resources.
  • Develops program policies and procedures for inmate programs and services.
  • Procures and manages county contracts for inmate program services.
  • Manages and monitors the GED and computer program daily.
  • Provides notary services for inmates and obtains certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Receives certification as a proctor for GED testing within the first 10 months of employment.
  • May teach classes applicable to inmates if a volunteer is unavailable.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Three years of experience in social work, probation and parole work, or vocational rehabilitation work, with one year in a correctional facility.
  • Knowledge of correctional facility operations, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and program development principles.
  • Familiarity with applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software applications.
  • Skills in planning, developing, monitoring, auditing, and evaluating program operations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification as a Notary Public within 90 days of employment.
  • Certification as a proctor for GED testing.
