About The Position

The Jail In Reach Educator collaborates with local forensic teams to support active forensic waitlist monitoring of individuals pending criminal charges for court-ordered inpatient competency restoration services; provides direct services to the person as well as links to additional resources needed to include psychiatric services, medical services, and legal education; provides enhanced continuity of care following a person’s restoration to competency and return to jail to prevent clinical decompensation and unnecessary rehospitalization; and participates in comprehensive strategic planning and implementation process to achieve sustainability for the jail-in reach program. This position requires a high degree of professionalism along with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social, behavioral or human services or is a registered nurse.  (Social, behavioral, and human services are psychology; social work; medicine; nursing; rehabilitation; counseling; sociology; human development; physician's assistant; gerontology; education psychology; special education; early childhood intervention; or early childhood education.)
  • Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License and be an insurable driver. Driving is an essential function and employees must maintain an acceptable driving record/insurability while employed.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year experience in providing mental health services to adults.
  • Work experience within a forensic setting.
  • Knowledge of DSM-IV/V disorders.
