Requirements

  • Basic mathematical principles.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Ability to learn and correctly interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand the organization of the county and outside agencies.
  • Ability to compile, maintain, and update files and records.
  • Ability to type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a correctional setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical/secretarial duties, inputting information regarding arrested persons.
  • Take possession of inmate property upon intake and record it in the property room.
  • Correctly classify inmates for housing.
  • Process, sort, file, copy, and distribute various files and filing systems.
  • Compile data from records or other information as requested.
  • Assist in sorting and distributing mail through the Jail as needed.
  • Process arraignment files and record information in the inmates' files.
  • Provide information to attorneys/bonding agents for the release of inmates.
  • Process all bonds for the release of inmates.
  • Operate a computer terminal and printer, typing and retrieving reports and records.
  • Provide assistance to Corrections personnel and the public as needed.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries and requests.
  • Mail out requested reports and records for public and private agencies.
  • Interpret for the Sheriff's Office with non-English speaking inmates and the general public.
  • Train new detention officers in proper inmate booking procedures.
  • Communicate with other agencies regarding transports of inmates.
  • Maintain the jail property room.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
