Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree with a major in therapeutic recreation, music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, drama therapy, leisure studies or recreation with a specialization in recreational therapy, including successful completion of an approved internship, fieldwork, or practicum.
  • Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.
  • Requires the ability to pass a background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
  • Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  • Requires the ability to stand for the duration of the shift, aside from official breaks and lunch period.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid drivers license.
  • This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience utilizing knowledge of the attitudes, problems, and behaviors of individuals and groups.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience utilizing the principles and practices of recreational therapy, music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy and drama therapy.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience teaching therapeutic activities.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience leading and directing other workers in carrying out specific projects or work.
