Position Overview ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Delivers quality care to patients through a team effort in working with others through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Assures patient safety by executing appropriate policies & procedures. Provides direct patient care in the insertion and maintenance of PIC, and endurance catheters. Serves as a resource to other members of the nursing staff regarding vascular access care. Assesses patients for signs and symptoms of infection or other complications related to the vascular access device. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the development and implementation of the plan of care. Performs dressing changes and other interventions as needed to maintain the integrity of the vascular access site. Documents all aspects of patient care in a timely and accurate manner. Educates patients and families on the importance of proper care for their vascular access device. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment required for procedures. Maintains current knowledge of best practices in vascular access care through participation in continuing education opportunities for at least 8 CEUs a year. Removes access devices when they are no longer required. Performs occasional blood draws as needed or when difficult for other staff to obtain. Ensures handoff communication and includes a report in terms of the situations most likely to develop and the problems awaiting patient. Participates in unit based and hospital-based committees. Participates in performance improvement activities at the unit and/or hospital wide level. Responds to RRT or code situations and serves as an assist to the team. Participates in monthly orientation of new team members and assists in the perception of new staff and students as needed. Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
