About The Position

The IV Therapy Nurse RN is responsible for the administration of medication at the physician's request, utilizing knowledge regarding medication and appropriate administration techniques. This role involves preparing medication upon orders by the physician, adhering to aseptic techniques, obtaining patient history, documenting vital signs and treatments, and educating patients about their visit and treatment. The nurse will also assist in scheduling appointments, maintain a safe environment, and ensure the timely turnover of medication administration.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Registered Nursing program, with minimum of an Associate's degree.
  • Must hold and maintain State of Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license prior to hire and/or transfer into an RN position and throughout employment in this position.
  • Must hold and maintain Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification, in accordance with American Heart Association training.
  • IV Certified by a qualified program.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medication upon orders by physician for administration to patient.
  • Adhere to aseptic technique.
  • Obtain history, drug allergies, current medications, any illness or surgery, and vital signs from patient.
  • Document vital signs, treatment, and medications, to include side effects.
  • Educate patient regarding visit, treatment, side effects, insurance requirements, and assistance available.
  • Perform duties accurately and willingly when requested.
  • Answer telephone calls and take messages if appropriate and document.
  • Schedule appointment if needed.
  • Assure scheduling and results received of required labs before medication administered.
  • Adjust schedules according to physician request.
  • Maintain a safe and quiet environment for the patients.
  • Assist physician's Medical Assistants as needed in administering medication.
  • Knowledgeable in verification of insurance coverage and benefits for medications, assistance available to patients, and checking balances.
  • Assist in the expedient turnover of medication administration.
  • Notify patients of unexpected delays in their appointment; offer to reschedule when appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource person when the need arises.
  • Complete department charge slips with appropriate CPT/ICD-9/ICD-10 codes as submits for data entry on a timely basis.
  • Order medications and supplies as necessary, maintaining inventory per department needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
