Requirements

• High school diploma plus 2-4 years experience in a mechanical/building trades or related environment.
• Ability to read and write English and make mathematical calculations.
• Depending upon functional area, may require a valid motor vehicle operator's license and the ability to operate vehicles in a troublefree, safe, and skillful manner.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and maintains buildings and most utility systems and equipment, performing a variety of services and skills, including repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, machines and facilities.
• Repairs mechanical equipment by disassembling, replacing components, reassembling, and alignment and adjustment to common tolerances.
• Repairs certain electrical and plumbing lines, and most types of fixtures and equipment.
• Repairs or replaces certain components of buildings such as tile, doors, walls, windows, stairs, roofs, woodwork, and cabinets.
• Receives and answers service requests and trouble calls.
• Initiates requisitions for spare parts, supplies, and special services, and maintains a stock of commonly used spare parts.
• Works from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and from verbal instructions.
• Keeps records and makes reports of daily work.
• Compiles with safety regulations of the University and of local, state and federal agencies.
• Maintains cleanliness of work area and insures that tools and equipment are kept in good working order.
• Performs other duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility as directed.
