AtkinsRéalis is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern to join our Raleigh, NC office. AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering, and project management consultancies. Our Internship Program, Explore, is designed for college students pursuing a degree in a STEM field and provides opportunities to learn what it’s like to work in a professional environment and apply what’s learned in class to the real-world challenges we face every day.

  • Design and develop plans and drawings related to ITS and Traffic design.
  • Organize and conduct ITS and Traffic engineering investigations, planning, and analysis.
  • Outline and prepare straightforward technical reports of sections of more complex reports.
  • Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, regulatory agency specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of specifications and permit applications.
  • Prepare preliminary man-hour, cost and material quantity estimates.
  • Participate in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines as required.
  • Perform field observations of construction where appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Must have completed 60 hours towards a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Summer 2026).
  • Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases.
  • Math skills to perform simple calculations; willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation (preferred).
