Reporting to the Executive Director of Special Education in the Student Support Unit, the Itinerant Teacher of the Visually Impaired is responsible for assisting assessment personnel in identifying and assessing visually impaired students working cooperatively with support services and regular classroom teachers. Scope of Responsibility: Facilitates services and interprets needs of the visually impaired students. Provides in-service training to all school personnel ensuring that the visually impaired student is positively received in the school. Obtains special textbooks and materials suitable for the visually impaired student. Maintains regular contact with the general classroom teacher to prepare reading materials in proper medium for the visually impaired student. Provides direct services to visually impaired students. Maintains reciprocal communication with the Louisiana Department of Education. Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.
