About The Position

Provide academic support in the general education setting to students identified as having a vision or hearing loss.

Requirements

  • Valid Iowa Teaching license appropriate for position (Deaf or Hard of Hearing)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct service to those students who need individualized support due to vision or hearing loss in the areas of reading, written language, and math.
  • Observe and evaluate academic needs of vision or deaf and hard of hearing students as a member of the team in determining the most appropriate program for the student.
  • Provide professional development on subjects such as; vision, hearing loss, how to use an interpreter, and accommodations needed for the student in the classroom.
  • Provide consultation and support to teachers in the general and special education settings regarding specific teaching strategies appropriate for students with a vision or hearing loss.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and consultants.
  • Communicate with families on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
