This role is for students who are currently part of the ITFA program at Columbus State Community College. The IT Apprenticeship is designed to provide hands-on exposure and experience across multiple IT disciplines, including but not limited to Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security. The apprenticeship offers structured learning, practical experience and mentoring for students currently enrolled in the Columbus State ITFA program. The role will assist in monitoring systems, improving reporting and automation, researching new technologies and supporting operational initiatives.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in Columbus State IT Flexible Apprenticeship (ITFA) Program
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive learning mindset.
  • Ability to manage tasks, document work, and follow established processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monitoring security platforms for potential threats, suspicious activity, and policy violations.
  • Support security incident triage, including determining scope, urgency, and potential impact of detected events.
  • Help investigate anomalous system or network activity and escalate findings to senior security staff.
  • Assist with user account reviews and access clean-up to support identity and access management practices.
  • Support maintenance and tuning of security platforms including SIEM, endpoint protection, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Assist with vulnerability tracking, documentation, and remediation support.
  • Help maintain documentation for security procedures and operational playbooks.
  • Assist with evaluating and implementing AI-enabled tools and automation that improve operational efficiency and security insights.
  • Support the creation of reports, dashboards, and data visualizations for technology and business teams.
  • Help design or test automation workflows using scripts or low-code platforms.
  • Assist with research and evaluation of AI technologies, machine learning concepts, and generative AI tools relevant to business operations.
  • Support experimentation with AI-driven analytics for operational insights, fraud detection, or anomaly detection.
  • Help document AI use cases, governance considerations, and responsible AI practices.
  • Support building agentic AI agents and workflows with intelligent decision-making and automated actions
  • Support AI-assisted software engineering to speed up coding, development, and delivery
  • Participate in Information Security and Technology projects and initiatives.
  • Conduct research on emerging cybersecurity threats, AI capabilities, and industry best practices.
  • Assist in documenting processes, findings, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across IT, security, and business operations.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to technology operations and security controls.
  • Participate in training, workshops, and on-the-job learning activities
  • Work alongside experienced IT professionals to learn and follow best practices
  • Document work, processes, and learning outcomes
  • Support ongoing IT projects and initiatives
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments, access controls, or policy reviews
  • Learn about cyber threats, risk management, and security best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Some travel may be required
