About The Position

NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service. DOF’ Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division designs, builds, and supports all facets of DOF’s computer systems, including hardware, software, applications, infrastructure, telephone, and data security. FIT delivers and administers tax-related payment programs for the City of New York by providing the information technology solutions needed to achieve its mission of collecting revenue while ensuring an efficient and improved customer experience. FIT is also responsible for the systems and websites which enable citywide payments, land records, property assessment, parking adjudications, customer service, and the Sheriff’s public safety work. The IT Asset Management (ITAM) Graduate Intern will support enterprise IT Asset Management and ServiceNow platform initiatives with a focus on data quality, process improvement, and metrics-driven decision-making. This role is designed for graduate students seeking hands-on experience with ServiceNow ITAM, Software Asset Management, Discovery, and IT performance reporting within an ITIL-aligned environment. Graduate level learning outcomes include advanced exposure to ServiceNow ITAM, SAM, and Discovery implementations, experience designing metrics and dashboards for executive audiences, practical application of IT governance, data quality, and lifecycle management principles and the opportunity to deliver measurable outcomes aligned to enterprise IT objectives. The intern will work on initiatives with measurable business impact and increased autonomy compared to undergraduate roles.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with asset data cleanup, normalization, and reconciliation efforts across hardware, software, and Configuration Management Database (CMDB) records within ServiceNow.
  • Analyze asset data quality issues and recommend process and data governance improvements.
  • Assist with the design, configure, and test ServiceNow forms and intake workflows to improve data capture, usability, and compliance.
  • Support ServiceNow Software Asset Management (SAM) implementation, including software normalization, entitlement modeling, usage analysis, and compliance reporting.
  • Assist with ServiceNow Discovery implementation and optimization, including validation of discovered data, reconciliation rules, and exception analysis.
  • Assist with developing ServiceNow reports, dashboards, and KPIs to support IT asset lifecycle management and executive decision-making.
  • Contribute to IT metrics reporting, including trend analysis, root cause insights, and data-driven recommendations.
  • Partner with IT operations, service desk, procurement, security, and finance stakeholders to align asset data with business processes.
  • Present findings, metrics, and recommendations to IT leadership or project teams.
  • Support audit readiness and compliance initiatives as needed.
