About The Position

San Luis Valley Health is looking for an IT Technical Manager to join our IT department. This position will provide operational, technical, and personnel leadership for the IT department, overseeing daily operations, system reliability, and staff performance. This role reports to the Director of IT, working closely to execute deparmental strategy, manage technical initiatives, and ensure secure, compliant, and effective IT services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field with 7+ years work experience in project management and/or healthcare information systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing IT personnel
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience supporting Microsoft-based systems
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, and endpoint management
  • Proven project management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare IT environment is highly recommended

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage IT staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, coaching, corrective action, and discipline as appropriate.
  • Manage IT staffing coverage, including on-call rotations, shift scheduling, after-hours support assignments, and coordination of coverage for planned and unplanned absences.
  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership for the IT department, serving as the primary point of accountability for workload prioritization, task assignment, and operational decision-making.
  • Provide technical leadership and escalation support, including hands-on troubleshooting when required and guidance on complex or high-risk technical issues.
  • Own the operational health of assigned IT systems and services, ensuring availability, performance, reliability, lifecycle planning, and vendor accountability.
  • Maintain, support, and optimize Microsoft-based enterprise systems and related infrastructure in alignment with organizational standards and best practices.
  • Oversee incidents, problems, and change management activities, including major incident response, root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and communication of risks and impacts to stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce IT policies, standards, procedures, and documentation, ensuring consistency, security, audit readiness, and knowledge continuity across the department.
  • Ensure system security, reliability, and regulatory compliance, including adherence to organizational policies, healthcare regulations, and security best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with the IT Director on departmental operations, strategic planning, service improvements, staffing needs, and technology roadmaps.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between IT and internal departments, translating technical concepts, risks, and decisions into clear, actionable information for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with external vendors, consultants, and service providers, including contract oversight, issue escalation, service delivery monitoring, and renewal planning.
  • Participate in IT budget planning and fiscal stewardship, including cost awareness, purchasing recommendations, vendor quotes, renewals, and justification of technology expenditures.
  • Mentor and develop IT staff, supporting skill development, cross-training, succession planning, and professional growth to ensure team resiliency and continuity.
