About The Position

We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of the IT Systems Technical Specialist , so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS! The main purpose of this position is to maintain the electronic security systems to ensure the safety and security of youth, staff and citizens of Maryland. This position will be located in Cheltenham, MD and will serve our Southern Maryland and Metro regions. The security systems include but are not limited to video surveillance, detention door systems, keycard access, code red system, Guard Tour, fence intrusion systems, intercom systems and two-way radios. This position assists in the planning, designing and developing electronic security systems, providing expert technical advice and guidance, as well as developing and implementing training. Additionally, this position coordinates vendor management, system documentation and customer support and training. Some key responsibilities of this position may include, but not be limited, to the following: Maintains Electronic Security Systems: Plans, designs and develops new or improves existing electronic security systems, through electronic security plans to address user needs, hardware, software, integrations and peripherals; performs in depth analysis of electronic security systems to include costs, and compatibility with existing hardware and software and provides recommendation and technical documents; and provides expert technical advice and guidance to support electronic security systems for DJS regarding future directions and customization of systems. Vendor Management: Coordinates with vendor representatives in the installation of new hardware and software related to the integration and upgrades of electronic security systems. Assist with the design, installation, and integration of electronic security systems in both small and large scale systems. System Documentation: Advises management in matters related to effective information support functions for electronic security. Develop procedures and standards for electronic security systems and interfaces. Develop documentation of all systems, configurations, and end user processes. Draft audit documentation as required and assist with audits. Customer Support & Training: Troubleshoots and resolves electronic security systems inconsistencies and problems that arise. These issues will be resolved 24 hours a day and may require working on evenings and weekends. Performs and or coordinates staff training for electronic security equipment as necessary. Trains staff on electronic security systems. This position is eligible to work a hybrid telework schedule as available due to demands in DJS facilities.

Requirements

  • Seven years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software.
  • Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology for four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software for four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output to process data on computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages on a year-for-year basis for a high school education.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology and three years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years experience with video surveillance systems, including installing cameras, trouble shooting cameras and integrating with video surveillance software.
  • Two years experience with UHF and VHF two-way radio systems, including two-way radios, routers and integration software.
  • Knowledge of permitter patrol tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of keycard access systems.
  • Knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems.
  • Experience in conducting security audits.
  • Experience in developing project plans and scopes of work.
