About the position

The IT Systems Engineer will support our internal IT team with a focus on core product technology, compute and software alignment. Additionally, as part of a highly innovative agile infrastructure group, to ensure best in class product architecture, and reliability. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with team members and grow to help push our IT strategy forward. You will apply technical skills and creativity in support of our Next Gen Sequencing (NGS) instrument development for Singular Genomics platforms. This role reports to the SVP, IT & InfoSec. This position is onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Serve with resourcefulness, critical thinking and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Expert level Linux knowledge and foundational expertise.
  • Provide core Linux expertise as SME, while managing multiple operating systems such as Windows, Windows Server and MacOS.
  • Configure, orchestrate and execute HPC (High Performance Computing) system configuration and system architecture.
  • Support as needed, IT operations including user experience, HPC escalations, asset management etc.
  • Lead requirement management across a multi-functional team and cross collaborative environment.
  • Reviews and evaluates performance data, metrics and related material to ensure sufficient network resources are available in support of business strategy and/or client strategy when applicable.
  • Develop system initiatives to grow and support cloud facing models and analysis.
  • Responsible for deployment support as an IT SME, providing backfill tasking and troubleshooting script/playbook-based automation processes as necessary.
  • Install, configure, test and maintain system management tools, infrastructure and application bundles.
  • Participate in the design of HPC operating systems and manage implementation of improvements.
  • Create, maintain and execute thorough documentation for system and application configurations.
  • Maintain and support client deployments of HPC Linux based systems including license/software management, access, versioning and related practices.
  • Deep understanding of operating system applications of risk minimizing cryptography and encryption including token-based authentication and other information security measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years Hands-on architecture design, engineering and management of HPC setups, large linux server environments or similar.
  • 4+ years expertise within Linux OS, such as Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience managing datacenter quality compute clusters.
  • 3+ years’ experience managing OS based cryptography, information security and edge protection protocols.
  • 3+ years’ experience and understanding of network design and effect to system engineering such as DHCP, VPN, IPS/IDP, Firewalls and other network modules.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with laboratory/diagnostic company/life science growth and expansion both in the US and global.
  • Familiarity and/or prior experience with proactively recommending network architecture against corporate strategy.
  • Familiarity and/or prior experience using automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform.
  • Prior experience automating and scripting infrastructure processes using languages such as Bash, Python, etc.
  • Intermediate experience in virtualization management and design.
  • Familiarity with databasing (SQL, MongoDB, Snowflake etc.) and operating system interaction with database platforms.
  • Advanced Linux expertise including scratch build, configuration and related CLI usage.
  • Intermediate experience with core cloud network architecture within AWS or Azure such as VPC configuration, express route, transit gateways and other connectivity mediums.
  • Advanced knowledge of storage systems such as SAN/NAS and cloud connect platforms.
  • Expertise reviewing and documenting SOP’s, policies and knowledge base articles.
  • Expertise within auditable compliance protocols such as PCI, HITECH, SOC2 and other related compliance protocols.
