About The Position

The College of Natural Resources and Environment (CNRE) is seeking an IT Systems and Security Specialist. The incumbent will be part of an IT team whose chief objective is to ensure continuous and secure operations of CNRE’s IT systems, data storage services, and endpoint system monitoring. The incumbent will play a key role in the implementation of services, data integrity, recoverability and security of the environment. This will include actively participating in day-to-day proactive support of CNRE faculty, staff, and students including hardware and software support, data storage implementation and support, security system best practices, endpoint management and reporting, and risk compliance. The incumbent will have ownership and/or participation in various projects as assigned in collaboration with CNRE IT leadership. The successful candidate will utilize communication, presentation and problem-solving skills. The candidate must be able to identify highly complex problems, investigate them, address them, and learn from them. The successful candidate will have excellent customer service skills to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, staff, and students. They must be energetic and able to function effectively and independently in a fast-moving environment subject to external pressure and frequent interruptions with an ability to advise users in applications, IT systems, storage, and security.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science or related field.
  • Significant experience supporting and maintaining Windows and Macintosh computer hardware systems and software.
  • Working knowledge of endpoint management tools like BigFix, JAMF, or Microsoft Intune.
  • Significant knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Working knowledge of modern scripting languages like PowerShell.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining security best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Linux environments, specifically Ubuntu.
  • Experience using a ticketing system.
  • Knowledge of android and IOS devices.
  • Understanding of various AV and instructional development hardware systems.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Knowledge of data analytics platforms like Splunk.

Responsibilities
