About the position

A Voice and Data Structured Cable Technician will install with direct supervision: cable pathway systems, fire stop systems, various electronic components, and various cable that includes but is not limited to: twisted pair cable, coax, fiber optic & low voltage cable. Cable installation includes: placement, termination, testing, labeling and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Plans network installations by using work orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools, assessing installation site.
  • Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Mounts telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm systems; installation of racks and cabinets all while following industry standards, best practices and manufacturer requirements.
  • Install cable pathway systems (cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks or D-rings) by using power or manual fasteners, drills or other power equipment.
  • Install or maintain existing fire stopping systems in conduits, trays, wall/ceiling/floor penetrations.
  • Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
  • Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions.
  • Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal requirements.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Requirements

  • Must Possess an Active Top Secret Clearance.
  • Must have knowledge of basic computer skills and be able to demonstrate good writing skills.
  • Must be knowledgeable in codes, industry standards and best practices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook a plus.
  • Must work well with little supervision individually and in a team environment.
  • Candidate may be required to have secret or top secret clearance.
  • Candidate will possess two (2) or more of the following: Recent, verifiable equivalent experience in the work described above (within 3 years), Verifiable military training on cabling design and/or installation (within 2 years), Valid manufacturer training certificate for the product being installed.

  • Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI) - Copper or Fiber
  • BICSI Installer 1 or 2 (Copper or Fiber)
  • BICSI Technician (Counts as 2 of the requirements)
  • BICSI RCDD
