Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development (G.E.D.) Test.
  • Have had at least three (3) years of full-time work experience in the installation, configuration, diagnostics, maintenance and repair of radio systems and components; OR
  • Possess an Associate’s degree or equivalent education from an accredited college or university with major in Physics, Electronics Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, or a closely related area.
  • Have had at least one (1) year of full-time professional work in the installation, configuration, diagnostics, maintenance and repair of radio systems and components.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeurs license.
  • Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur’s license.
  • Must pass a background check performed by the County or other appropriate agencies as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled preventive maintenance and repairs on the County’s advanced digital communications systems, including the 700/800 MHz Motorola P25 simulcast subsystem of the Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) and the 420 MHz MotoTrbo radio communications network.
  • Support and maintain pager and fire hall alerting systems used by public safety professionals across the County.
  • Attend specialized training sessions to deepen your expertise in digital radio system repair, maintenance, and emerging technologies.
  • Stay current on system software used by the unit and assess opportunities for upgrades or enhancements.
