About The Position

The purpose of the IT Security Administrator is to design, implement, maintain, and monitor the IT security program to protect Midwest Energy's data, devices and computer networks from cyber-attacks and help set and maintain security standards. The position ensures that computer systems, data systems, software solutions, servers and networks are monitored for security issues and that protective security software is installed and operating as designed. The position will work to act against cyber-attacks and document events, incidents, or breaches. The IT Security Administrator will collaborate with all members of the IT department in implementing security solutions, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in cyber security, information systems, computer science, or a related field.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in cybersecurity or related fields.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate and/or Professional certifications.
  • Experience with TCP/IP and OSI network models.
  • Knowledge of security operations and network administration.
  • Experience with Windows Server, VMware, Microsoft Azure, and Linux Server operating systems.
  • Proficiency in Windows Power Shell and Linux bash scripting.
  • Ability to pass a FBI or Department of Homeland Security background check.

  • Knowledge of electric or gas utility industry.

Responsibilities

  • Research current industry cybersecurity best practices and develop a strategy for implementation.
  • Prepare and report security metrics (KPIs) based on the adopted cybersecurity framework.
  • Implement and facilitate a cybersecurity awareness user training program for all employees.
  • Monitor computer networks and devices for security issues and compliance with defined security standards.
  • Defend systems against unauthorized access.
  • Install cybersecurity measures by configuring, supporting, and operating software and solutions.
  • Alert employees about new dangerous threats identified by the cybersecurity community.
  • Perform active threat hunting and network vulnerability assessments.
  • Review and update the Corporate Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan.
  • Document security breaches and assess the damage caused.
  • Organize and execute an annual penetration test with an outside firm.
  • Assist in the purchase of cybersecurity related IT hardware and software.
  • Assist in compliance measures related to Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP).
  • Lead the implementation of the corporate defined security program.
  • Act as the Incident Response Coordinator and coordinate the mitigation of detected vulnerabilities.
  • Coordinate and/or lead tabletop exercises to test the Incident Response plan.
  • Participate in Leadership 40 meetings and present IT security affairs to various stakeholders.
  • Research and present enhancements to Administrative Policies and IT Department Policies.
  • Ensure Corporate IT security procedures are adhered to and documented.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external working relationships.
  • Keep informed of changes concerning IT security trends and technology.
