About The Position

Idaho Power, located in Boise, Idaho, is seeking an IT Project Manager or Senior to join its Information Technology team. The company plays a critical role in providing safe, reliable, affordable, clean energy to communities in Idaho and Oregon. This position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, with flexible schedules and the option to work up to 40% remotely. The IT Project Manager works independently, managing schedules for medium to large, high-risk, multifaceted technology projects and resources. They provide support and coaching to other staff members and contribute to the maturity of the IT Portfolio Project Management Office (PPMO). The role involves utilizing IT PPMO standards and leveraging both predictive and adaptive project approaches to ensure projects are delivered on-time and within budget. Technology schedules typically range from 6-24 months with budgets potentially exceeding $1 million, covering projects such as software/hardware upgrades, software development, and off-the-shelf solution implementations. This position is within the Information Technology (IT) PPMO organization. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and/or certifications
  • For Project Manager: 2 years of experience in a project management role with a minimum of 1 year managing technology projects
  • For Senior Project Manager: 5 or more years of experience in a project management role with a minimum of 3 years of experience managing technology projects
  • For Senior Project Manager: Proven ability to manage projects using adaptive and predictive approaches
  • Knowledge of Project management principles (preferably from the Project Management Institute - PMI)
  • Knowledge of both predictive and adaptive project management processes and techniques
  • Knowledge of Business System Analyst (BSA) best practices including requirements management, business case development, process definition and improvement, and test management
  • Knowledge of Portfolio management
  • Knowledge of Software development practices and IT operations practices
  • Knowledge of Portfolio management methodologies and frameworks
  • Knowledge of Financial concepts and ability to manage budgets, forecast costs, and track financial performance

Responsibilities

  • Managing schedules for medium to large, high-risk, multifaceted technology projects and resources
  • Providing support and coaching to other staff members
  • Contributing directly to the maturity of the IT Portfolio Project Management Office (PPMO)
  • Utilizing IT PPMO standards to guide projects from initiation through completion
  • Leveraging techniques from both predictive and adaptive project approaches to deliver value while remaining on-time and within budget
  • Partnering with program & senior management to drive cost, schedule, and technical performance by facilitating integration across all functions
  • Developing and maintaining compliant integrated project schedules which accurately validate the flow, budget, and resources required to execute contractual scope and overarching program strategy
  • Analyzing portfolio data, identifying trends, and drawing meaningful insights to inform decision-making
  • Developing creative solutions to address challenges and optimize portfolio performance
  • Ensuring schedule integration and environment dependencies between projects is understood
  • Devising modeling and measuring techniques to integrate risks and opportunities with schedule and cost baseline, and to perform schedule risk assessments
  • Utilizing performance and health metrics analyses to drive actions resulting in improved program performance
  • Utilizing scheduling software for project planning and tracking
  • May act in the role of a Scrum Master
  • Participates in but is not directly responsible for contracting in projects
