The IT Project Intermediate/Senior Manager position at the Department of Pathology, Division of Pathology Informatics (PI) involves overseeing the development and implementation of IT projects within a healthcare environment. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, project tracking, and adherence to quality standards, while also providing technical guidance and managing vendor tasks. The senior role includes additional responsibilities such as managing large, complex IT initiatives and recommending strategic changes.

  • Take projects from original concept through final implementation
  • Interface with all areas affected by the project including end users, computer services, and client services
  • Participate in defining project scope and objectives
  • Develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports
  • Conduct project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and review project deliverables
  • Manage the integration of vendor tasks and track and review vendor deliverables
  • Provide technical and analytical guidance to project team
  • Recommend and take action to direct the analysis and solutions of problems
  • Assist with prioritization, ranking and tracking of active projects
  • Maintain the project intake, review and tracking of active, pending and deferred projects
  • Review and modify project intake process
  • Assist with writing project policies and procedures
  • Escalate resource conflicts to team leads/manager/director as needed
  • Manage large, complex, multi-division IT initiatives
  • Define project scope and objectives
  • Recommend strategic changes and objectives in project prioritization
  • Create and write project policies and procedures, update existing documents
  • Conduct A3 evaluation at division and department level
  • Assist with resource conflicts as needed
  • Assist other members of PI leadership with projects as needed
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills such as prioritization, planning, scheduling and budgeting
  • 4 or more years of relevant experience in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience with project management (Intermediate)
  • 4 or more years of experience working in a large complex healthcare environment (Intermediate)
  • 7 or more years of experience in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience with project management (Senior)
  • 7 or more years of experience working in a large healthcare environment (Senior)
  • Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policies and procedures
  • Experience with Pathology specific needs and workflows
  • Completed PMP certification or active progress toward completion
  • Knowledge of workflow in a clinical laboratory
  • LEAN training
