The Cincinnati Insurance Companies is seeking a proactive and technically skilled Observability Engineer with strong experience in Dynatrace to help ensure the stability, performance, and reliability of our enterprise systems. In this role, you will serve as a key contributor to our monitoring and observability strategy leveraging Dynatrace to detect issues early, enhancing system visibility, and driving continuous operational improvements. You will work closely with infrastructure, application, and architecture to troubleshoot incidents, optimize performance, and support critical IT services across the organization. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and is passionate about building resilient, data‑driven operational capabilities. Work location and flexibility are subject to change based on evolving business needs, but generally, selected candidates who reside: within 50 miles of Headquarters may be expected to work in a hybrid capacity, combining remote and onsite work when business needs necessitate. more than 50 miles from Headquarters must be flexible and available to travel to Fairfield, OH, on an occasional basis for special events, training sessions, or key meetings. To ensure active engagement in meetings, it is mandatory for all IT associates to have cameras turned on for all interactions with other associates, customers, and stakeholders. Your camera must be on and positioned correctly to clearly show your face. This practice is crucial for maintaining connection and engagement, as non-verbal cues are essential for effective communication.

Requirements

  • 3–4 years of experience in IT operations, site reliability, system administration, or an equivalent technical support role
  • hands‑on experience with Dynatrace, including configuration, dashboarding, alert creation, and performance analysis
  • strong understanding of infrastructure components such as servers, networks, operating systems (Windows/Linux), cloud environments, and application stacks
  • familiarity with scripting or automation tools (DQL-Dynatrace Query Language, PowerShell, Python, or similar)
  • experience supporting monitoring, observability, or application performance management (APM) platforms
  • solid troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with a root‑cause‑analysis mindset
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non‑technical teams
  • ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, operational environment
  • a bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands‑on experience gained through professional development programs or technical training.
  • strong foundational knowledge in operating systems (Windows and/or Linux), gained through coursework, labs, or structured training programs.
  • understanding of IT infrastructure fundamentals, including servers, networking, storage, and cloud concepts, supported by academic study or formal certifications.
  • completed training or certification in Dynatrace, such as Dynatrace Associate or Professional level learning paths, demonstrating the ability to configure, interpret, and optimize monitoring environments.
  • practical experience gained through labs, internships, or previous roles in incident management, system troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
  • hands‑on exposure to scripting or automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python), acquired through coursework, self-study, or technical bootcamps.
  • knowledge of ITIL principles or structured operational processes, with coursework, certifications, or practical experience to reinforce best practices.

  • experience with Nagios and Splunk preferred

Responsibilities

  • monitor, maintain, and optimize IT infrastructure performance using Dynatrace, ensuring system reliability, availability, and health
  • analyze application and infrastructure telemetry to proactively identify incidents, performance bottlenecks, and root causes
  • collaborate closely with engineering, application owners, and cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot complex issues and drive long‑term solutions
  • build and maintain dashboards, alerts, and automation scripts to enhance observability and operational efficiency
  • support day‑to‑day IT operations, including incident management, change execution, and environment stability initiatives
  • contribute to the continuous improvement of monitoring strategies, operational processes, and best practices
  • participate in on‑call rotations to ensure 24/7 operational support when needed
