About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Information Technology (IT) Manager leads specialized technical operations and oversees IT systems, services, applications, and data security for the School of Architecture. This position provides comprehensive unit-level IT support, manages projects and resources, and ensures a secure, efficient, and innovative technical environment for academic and research activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • Three years of related experience in IT.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of basic project and operations management including decision making, scheduling, prioritizing, quality assurance, delegating, monitoring work tasks, reporting, negotiating, basic vendor relations, advanced customer relations skills, proposal writing, business acumen, persuasive communication, and adaptability to change.
  • Knowledge of team leadership skills including motivating team and group processes, team collaboration, empowering, coaching, mentoring, training, and supervising staff.
  • Industry related skills to include proficiency with the Information Technology Interface Library (ITIL).
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure reliable operation of local and virtual servers, networks, digital tools, and other IT resources.
  • Manage server and network administration, including security, access control, and compliance with University policies and state regulations.
  • Develop, configure, and enhance IT systems to meet evolving instructional, research, and administrative needs.
  • Maintain IT resource inventories and coordinate with vendors and stakeholders on procurement, evaluation, and service contracts.
  • Support faculty and staff with installation and troubleshooting for University enterprise systems such as Banner and FAMIS.
  • Establish procedures and governance for current and proposed IT systems.
  • Lead evaluation, planning, and implementation of IT projects, including risk assessment and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with University IT units to ensure technical integration and compatibility.
  • Apply project management methodologies to oversee requirements gathering, testing, deployment, and project completion.
  • Provide guidance on technology policies, standards, and best practices for the School.
  • Assist with budgeting, procurement, installation, and lifecycle management of IT resources across the main campus, Northwest Houston Center, and the Fabrication Center.
  • Conduct user training, manage system updates, and coordinate enhancement requests.
  • Supervise the operation of four architecture-focused computer labs located on the main campus and at the Northwest Houston Center.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of specialized software supporting Architecture, Construction Science, Digital Media Arts, and Community Development programs.
  • Maintain and support hardware and equipment including desktops, laptops, plotters, 3D printers, laser cutters, scanners, and CNC routers.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of advanced digital design systems including CAD, visualization, animation, and digital fabrication technologies used for teaching, research, and student projects.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise IT staff and student workers supporting lab operations.
  • Maintain lab inventory and coordinate equipment maintenance and service requests with the University Service Center.
  • Document and respond to recurring technical issues to improve system reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical consultation and training to faculty, staff, and students on specialized design and fabrication technologies.
  • Evaluate emerging tools and recommend technology solutions that support academic and research initiatives within the School of Architecture.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
