About The Position

The Rotational Internship Program with Ascension Technologies is designed to provide an on-the-job learning opportunity to gain "real world" IT work experience in a large IT service environment, supporting IT end users who work in a healthcare setting. As a Devops & Cloud Platform Engineer Intern You will play a key role in the software delivery lifecycle, designing and implementing the foundational elements of our digital infrastructure. Ascension Technologies aims to provide a working and learning environment where interns can develop technical and customer service skills through various work assignments, gaining the skills and competencies necessary to grow into successful professionals and potential Ascension associates. You will focus on automation, CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring cloud applications are stable, scalable, and observable. As an Ascension Technologies Intern, you will be able to work on real-life and meaningful projects, develop your technical skills, collaborate, and network with various teams across the IT Infrastructure and Security continuum. You will have the opportunity to specialize in one of two tracks: DevOps & Site Reliability, focused on automation and developer experience, or Cloud Platforms, focused on Infrastructure as Code and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). This work involves gathering requirements to understand stakeholder needs, defining models, researching evidence-based practice and outcome metrics, and receiving mentorship. You will get under the hood of Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and GitHub Actions, helping to migrate real applications to the cloud and building the pipelines that power our developers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma equivalency OR Enrolled in accredited program specific to discipline required.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Communications, Organizational Development, Project Management.
  • Technical Stack: Strong interest in or familiarity with Terraform, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), GKE, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins.
  • Operating Systems: Comfort with heavy use of the Linux command line.
  • Languages & Formats: Familiarity with YAML, Groovy, and SQL.
  • Automation Mindset: Obsessed with automation and "Infrastructure as Code".
  • Analytical Skills: Practical analytical and communication skills.
  • Data Structures: Working knowledge of relational databases/database structures/schemas, data flow diagrams, and data specifications.
  • General Tools: Proficiency with Google Office tools, including meetings, slides, and spreadsheets.
  • Cloud Experience: Experience with RDBMS systems and/or big data and Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • GitHub Cloud Migration: Participates in technology-related projects such as assisting in moving repositories and workflows into GitHub cloud to set new standards for version control.
  • Pipeline Engineering: Builds and troubleshoots automation scripts using GitHub Actions and Jenkins (Groovy/Jenkinsfile).
  • Cloud Native Onboarding: Helps teams migrate applications from traditional servers to Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Cloud Run.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Uses Terraform to provision and manage cloud resources programmatically.
  • Security Remediation: Collaborates with technical resources to perform root cause analysis and complete remediation of technology issues, specifically identifying and fixing security vulnerabilities (CVEs) within deployment pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Developer Support: Collaborates on driving improvement activities by creating tools that help developers deploy their own code without manual intervention.
  • Observability: Translates functional requirements to technical specifications to build Tableau or Cloud Native dashboards for monitoring event metrics and system health.
  • Research: Research and data gathering for key initiatives related to Cloud Native application architecture and automation methodologies.
