About The Position

The Internship Program with Ascension is designed to provide an on-the-job learning opportunity aimed at gaining "real world" work experience in a large healthcare environment, supporting leadership with data driven insights that deliver value to those we serve. Ascension’s objective is to provide a working and learning environment where interns can develop the skills and competencies necessary to grow into successful professionals and potential Ascension associates. As a Clinical Informatics Intern, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our clinical software and hardware work seamlessly for our doctors and nurses. You will act as the bridge between technical systems and clinical coordination, helping to optimize the tools that drive patient care. Ascension Technologies is looking for motivated professionals to join our cutting edge team and implement technology solutions to improve healthcare quality and safety, improve patient care, and engage patients and their families in their healthcare. As a Clinical Informatics Intern you will have the opportunity to work on real-time and meaningful projects, develop your technical skills, collaborate and network with various teams, prepare business cases, research evidence-based practice and outcome metrics, and receive mentorship.

Requirements

  • High school diploma equivalency OR Enrolled in accredited program specific to discipline required.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Clinical Informatics, Nursing, or a related degree from accredited college or university.
  • Ideally a clinical student (Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Sciences) or an IT student with a strong interest in Healthcare Informatics.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer skills with comfort in Google Workspace. Should be a quick learner of enterprise platforms like ServiceNow and EHR systems.
  • Data Skills: Familiarity with basic data tools (like Tableau) and strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, for training and team coordination.
  • Feedback: The ability to both take direction from senior leads and give clear, honest feedback on system performance.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills to manage testing scripts and validation logs.
  • Desire to learn and share ideas in a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Coordination: Support Clinical Informatics (CI) leads in coordinating technology rollouts and clinical workflows.
  • Testing & Validation: Participate in technology related projects, including hands-on assistance with testing new software updates and validating that technical scripts meet clinical needs.
  • Technology Scripting: Help update and refine technology scripts and order sets used within our Electronic Health Records (EHR) and imaging systems.
  • Data & Support: Utilize tools like ServiceNow for task management and Tableau for data visualization to help provide the team with additional capacity and insights.
  • Training: Assist in the creation of training materials and the coordination of educational sessions for clinical staff.
  • Shadowing: Shadows clinical informatics employees to learn the different roles and gains familiarity with different healthcare IT systems.
  • Research: Research gathering, data mining, data gathering, and business case development for clinically impactful initiatives.
