The Field Technician I position is responsible for providing a highly available voice and data network by effectively performing network installations, maintenance, and support under the direction of a Network Analyst or the VP of Telecom & Computer Network Systems. The technician will constantly monitor voice and data network availability through network management tools and address problems as they arise, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction through the proper provisioning of various technology infrastructure services and scheduling. This role serves as a primary point of contact for telecommunications system-related problems and support, closely monitoring the Network Monitoring System alert messages and quickly resolving network-related issues. The technician will work with Avaya and the network support group to isolate network problems and replace defective components, while also continuing to develop technical skills by collaborating with telecommunications vendors in the configuration and troubleshooting of network components. Regular scheduled vendor meetings will be conducted to review problems and project status, integrating proactive notification of critical network events using NMS, Kiwi alerts, history, and performance reporting. The technician is responsible for maintaining and verifying monthly FCICIA procedures for the network group, which includes frame relay availability reports, ISDN testing, monthly out-of-band testing, and overall network availability. Additionally, the technician will plan and implement telecommunications adds, moves, and changes.

  • Understanding of networking and telecommunications concepts, including circuit offerings like Sonet, ATM, Frame Relay, DDS, T1/T3 multiplexing, TCP/IP, and routing concepts.
  • Ability to work with senior network analysts to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of wide area networks (WAN) architecture and telephony vendor support.
  • 1 to 3 years of network experience, preferably in the banking industry.
  • Familiarity with network management concepts and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration of Voice and Data equipment, including routers, switches, media servers, and telephone/server/desktop connectivity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and VISIO.
  • Willingness to travel, with the possibility of extended days.
  • Understanding of compliance issues and adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ability to function as a backup to the Network Analyst, Telecom Analyst, Desktop Support Analyst, and Server Analyst.
