We are looking for a self-motivated individual to fill the position of IT Expert, Industrial Control System within our IT Power System group based in Houston, TX. This is a hybrid 9/80 role.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, Power Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with generation management systems. GMS.
  • Strong understanding of power generation operations, including thermal, renewable, and/or Cogen assets.
  • Experience with real-time operational systems and OT/IT environments.
  • Knowledge of system integration standards, data flows, and interfaces (e.g., APIs, OPC, messaging).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic knowledge Inter Center Communication Protocol ICCP.
  • A good understanding of IT networks.
  • High Proficiency in Microsoft Office (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • A fair understanding of project management concepts and methodologies
  • Experience with software programming languages

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related technical field.
  • Experience with AspenTech EMS, SCADA, or related energy management solutions.
  • Knowledge of electricity markets, generation scheduling, and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices in OT environments.
  • Experience supporting 24/7 operational systems.
  • Basic knowledge DCS, BPCS and OPC protocol (Open Platform Communications)

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, configure, implement, and support AspenTech GMS solutions, ensuring alignment with operational objectives, regulatory requirements, and long-term system strategy.
  • Lead and support generation scheduling, dispatch, unit commitment, and performance optimization, enabling efficient and reliable power system operations.
  • Own and drive system integrations between GMS and adjacent platforms, including SCADA, EMS, DMS, market systems, and data historians, ensuring seamless data flow across operational and business layers.
  • Perform advanced system performance analysis, identify optimization opportunities, and deliver recommendations that enhance reliability, efficiency, scalability, and compliance.
  • Serve as a trusted technical partner to operations, engineering, IT, and cybersecurity teams, ensuring secure, resilient, and highly available system functionality.
  • Lead system upgrades, version migrations, patching, hotfix deployment, and testing, ensuring minimal operational disruption and adherence to best practices.
  • Proactively improves the system’s cybersecurity posture, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies aligned with corporate and industry security standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and govern technical documentation, system architecture artifacts, operating procedures, and support playbooks.
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning for complex system issues.
  • Mentor and train operational and technical teams, driving knowledge transfer, user adoption, and operational excellence.
  • Provide Tier 1 and escalation support, serving as a subject matter expert for critical incidents and high-priority operational issues.
  • Lead and drive power systems projects, including system modernization initiatives, new deployments, and enterprise integration efforts.
  • Support and enhance data management and integration strategies between automation systems and enterprise business platforms to enable analytics, reporting, and decision support
  • Support integration of data management between IT and OT.
