About The Position

IT Engineer Location: Lenexa, KS (fully in-office) Support People. Strengthen Culture. Make an Impact. George Butler Associates, Inc., is seeking an experienced and highly skilled IT Engineer to join our growing technology team. This role is ideal for a technical performer who thrives in designing, implementing, and maintaining a secure, hybrid infrastructure environment encompassing Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), traditional on-premises systems, and networking technologies. The role requires a deep understanding of security frameworks including CMMC, CIS Controls v8.1, and NIST 800-171, with the ability to ensure compliance across all systems. This position supports a single organization and involves end-to-end responsibility for infrastructure architecture, administration, and compliance documentation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate both hands-on technical expertise and excellent communication skills, support end users, and collaborate cross-functionally as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field and at least 5 years of IT experience, or 10 years of progressively responsible IT experience in systems engineering, networking, or infrastructure roles
  • Proven experience administering and securing both on-premises and cloud environments
  • Demonstrated history of compliance-driven IT operations (CMMC, NIST, or similar frameworks)
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to problem solving
  • Strong/excellent written and verbal communication skills (for collaboration)
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation, system diagrams, and change records
  • Strong sense of ownership, integrity, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to evolving technologies
  • Understand and champion change management
  • Ability to self-manage time and deliverables based on criticality
  • Solid organizational skills (methodical/action plans/schedules/etc.)
  • Ability to schedule and document own time management and reporting
  • Positive and professional interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Microsoft Azure & Cloud Architecture Design, deployment, and management of Azure environments including Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Azure AD, Intune, and hybrid identity
  • Strong understanding of Azure networking, storage, virtual machines, policy management, and role-based access control (RBAC)
  • Familiarity with cost management, backup, and monitoring within Azure environments
  • Server Administration Expert-level knowledge of Windows Server (20162022) including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and WSUS
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware)
  • Patch management, system hardening, and backup/restore procedures
  • Scripting and automation using PowerShell or equivalent
  • Networking Proficiency in LAN/WAN architecture, VLAN configuration, routing, VPNs, and firewall management
  • Experience maintaining network security, segmentation, and performance monitoring
  • Understanding of Wi-Fi and switching technologies
  • Security & Compliance Knowledge In-depth understanding of CMMC 2.0, NIST SP 800-171, and CIS Controls v8.1 frameworks
  • Ability to translate compliance requirements into technical controls and documentation
  • Experience with vulnerability management, incident response, and log monitoring
  • Capable of assisting in audit preparation, evidence gathering, and security control implementation
  • Knowledge of encryption standards, multi-factor authentication, and data protection practices
