About The Position

A Systems Analyst develops applications; implements software packages, integrates applications, and provides 24x7 application support. Collaborates on all phases of the software development life-cycle (SDLC) with a focus on the application design, development, and implementation phases. Utilizes appropriate development tools and technologies in keeping with the IT architecture. This position will support TECO's energy control center mainly by managing GE's E-terra EMS (Energy Management System). This real-time system helps TECO manage the transmission and generation assets that make up the Bulk Electric System for Tampa. The job will involve administering and supporting the system for operators in the control center. The position will also handle data from the EMS to external departments, which will require some programming and database interactions. Additionally, smaller ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) applications will be supported as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information/Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems or equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum one year of experience in systems analysis, design, and development.
  • Working knowledge of business software applications and hardware technologies.
  • Good verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understands project plans and is able to clearly articulate their role, project goals, and timelines.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Comprehends technical design specifications and possesses knowledge of development tools and technologies in support of the Information Technology Architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in specific job-related disciplines are preferred.
  • At least one professional certification in specific job-related disciplines.
  • Four years of experience in systems analysis, design, and development.
  • Two or more professional certifications in specific job-related disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software of limited complexity based on specifications provided.
  • Implement software packages for which limited configuration and integration is required with minimal vendor contact.
  • Integrate applications where the complexity of interfaces is limited and based on specifications provided.
  • Provide 24x7 primary support for one or more applications typically classified as ‘niche' or ‘core', but not ‘mission-critical'. May provide secondary support for mission-critical applications.
  • Support the request and analysis phases of SDLC by assisting with documentation and estimates.
  • Execute the design, development, and implementation phases of SDLC by producing the prescribed deliverables under the guidance of more senior staff.
  • Participate in an Application Development and Support team as well as project teams under the direction of their manager, senior team members, or project managers.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of business areas relevant to projects and application support assignments.
  • Acquire and maintain appropriate technical skills.
