About The Position

Unum is Hiring: Software Delivery Leader - PEGA Underwriting Solutions. We're looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to drive delivery excellence for a cross-functional team developing underwriting software using PEGA technology. In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring the team meets its software delivery commitments while fostering a high-performance, growth-oriented culture. You'll collaborate with product owners and IT leadership to deliver valuable, integrated solutions—bridging legacy systems with a modern digital architecture. Requirements

  • 5+ years leading IT or Scrum teams in an agile environment.
  • Experience with PEGA-based underwriting and rating solutions.
  • Strong technical background in software development or architecture.
  • A passion for coaching, mentoring, and elevating team performance.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science preferred, or relevant technical experience.
  • Proven experience in software development or technology background with strong knowledge of relevant technical disciplines.
  • Demonstrates understanding of Agile/Lean leadership principles.
  • Exhibits courage by taking smart risks and encouraging others to do so.
  • Displays good interpersonal skills at all levels of contact.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Pega underwriting and rating solutions (i.e., E.Q.U.I.P. systems).
  • Proficient in methods and techniques for running effective meetings.
  • Demonstrates the ability to champion change and support teams through change.
  • Demonstrates the ability to think critically and challenge conventional thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for, oversees and evaluates the overall delivery of the team and acts to address issues when necessary.
  • Ensures the team has a well-defined backlog of valuable work.
  • Helps the product owner and team members to prioritize initiatives and sprint releases.
  • Removes obstacles and roadblocks that impact the performance of the team.
  • Works with business partners and team to translate the business strategy or roadmap into backlog items.
  • Ensures that the team(s) apply the best software engineering practices including test driven development, peer reviews, continuous integration and deployment practices, unit and regression test automation, and comprehensive approach to addressing NFR.
  • Demonstrates creativity and innovation in applying solutions for the benefit of the customer/stakeholder.
  • Uses metrics and tools to understand team performance and efficiency; takes actions to improve the efficiency of the team.
  • Mentors, coaches, and inspires team members to higher levels of performance.
  • Identifies and addresses skills gaps in the team that may impact its ability to meet business needs.
  • Develops a self-organizing team and supports the management activities that make self-organization successful.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of a broad range of emerging technology trends.
