JOB SUMMARYWe are seeking an experienced IT Data Management & Recovery Engineer with a strong background in data backups/recovery/management. This is a technical, hands-on position—not an entry-level role or a developer position. The ideal candidate thrives in an environment where they must learn new technologies independently, and apply their foundational understanding of data management and recovery within the Exacta ecosystem. This position will sit in our Austin, Texas HQ and be able to travel to support our IT Operations team as needed.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with enterprise backup solutions.
  • Strong understanding of virtualization environments, cloud, and hybrid infrastructures.
  • Experience with storage technologies, replication, snapshotting, and data lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles as they relate to data protection and ransomware resilience.
  • Ability to develop technical documentation, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT operations, with demonstrated experience in backup, disaster recovery, and data protection.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and data retention solutions across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Develop, maintain, and test disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) plans to ensure operational resilience.
  • Monitor backup systems and recovery processes to ensure successful completion and compliance with established SLAs and RPO/RTO objectives.
  • Perform regular recovery testing and document results, remediation actions, and continuous improvement recommendations.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, application, and engineering teams to align data protection strategies with system architecture.
  • Maintain documentation for data management, recovery procedures, DR runbooks, and operational standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and best practices related to data protection and resilience.
  • Troubleshoot backup, replication, and recovery failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Support audits, regulatory requirements, and compliance initiatives related to data protection and retention.
  • Assist with incident response related to data loss, system outages, or recovery events.
  • Manage storage utilization and data lifecycle policies to optimize performance and cost.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support as required for critical incidents.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
