About The Position

This role focuses on leading the strategic operations of an enterprise-wide patch management program, ensuring timely deployment of security updates and minimizing vulnerabilities across IT systems. You will collaborate with IT teams, system owners, and vendors to maintain patch compliance, enhance processes, and integrate automation tools. The position requires analyzing complex cybersecurity advisories, assessing risks, and providing actionable recommendations to leadership. Additionally, you will mentor peers and junior staff, develop policies and standards, and stay current on emerging trends in patch management and cybersecurity. Success in this role comes from ensuring system security, stability, and alignment with organizational risk tolerance while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 7–9 years of experience in cybersecurity or related IT roles (11+ years if no degree), with substantial patch management experience
  • Strong knowledge of patch management methodologies, tools, operating systems, applications, and change management processes
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills for patch deployment planning
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills with cross-functional teams and leadership
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell for automating patch management tasks
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise patch management solutions (e.g., SCCM, Ivanti)
  • Leadership and mentoring experience, with a commitment to continuous professional development
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity governance, risk, and compliance best practices
  • Ability to travel to other locations as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating patch management with vulnerability management and cybersecurity operations
  • Knowledge of operating system and application hardening techniques
  • Familiarity with cloud security technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience in healthcare provider environments and knowledge of HIPAA/HITECH regulations

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end patch management lifecycle, including testing, deployment, verification, and reporting
  • Support strategy development and alignment of patch management activities with organizational risk tolerance
  • Evaluate, select, and implement enterprise patch management solutions and automation tools
  • Analyze patch release notes, advisories, and vulnerability data to prioritize deployment and provide recommendations
  • Establish and enforce patch management SLAs with IT teams and system owners, tracking compliance
  • Develop and maintain patch management policies, standards, and procedures
  • Oversee patch exceptions and mitigation strategies, providing regular updates to leadership
  • Provide guidance and consultation to IT leadership and departments on patch management best practices
  • Mentor peers and junior cybersecurity staff, fostering professional growth
  • Respond to urgent cybersecurity incidents or critical requests, including on-site support when required
