Our IT Business Intelligence & Data Management team is seeking a hands-on, transformational architect to assist in leading the design of our modern data platform, define enterprise modeling and engineering standards, while guiding teams in adopting best practices across analytics, data engineering, and governance. You’ll own the Modern Stack Playbook, partner with domain teams to build scalable data products, and drive foundational capabilities that power analytics and future AI solutions. Work location and flexibility are subject to change based on evolving business needs, but generally, selected candidates who reside: within 50 miles of Headquarters may be expected to work in a hybrid capacity, combining remote and onsite work when business needs necessitate. more than 50 miles from Headquarters must be flexible and available to travel to Fairfield, OH, on an occasional basis for special events, training sessions, or key meetings. To ensure active engagement in meetings, it is mandatory for all IT associates to have cameras turned on for all interactions with other associates, customers, and stakeholders. Your camera must be on and positioned correctly to clearly show your face. This practice is crucial for maintaining connection and engagement, as non-verbal cues are essential for effective communication.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data engineering or data architecture, including 3+ years in a lead or principal architect role
  • expert‑level dbt: structure, macros, testing, documentation, and operating multi‑project environments
  • Snowflake mastery: RBAC, virtual warehouses, performance tuning, workload isolation, and cost management
  • DataOps & Git fluency: strong opinions and hands‑on experience with Git branching/PRs and CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins) for automated testing and deployment
  • proven migration leadership from legacy, vendor‑locked tools (e.g., DataStage, Informatica, Oracle) to modern, code‑based stacks
  • dimensional & relational modeling expertise, including data mesh hybrid modeling and conformed layer design
  • communication & leadership: clear, pragmatic, and credible with engineers and non‑technical stakeholders; player‑coach mentality
  • Bachelor’s or master’s in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance Domain Expertise (Highly Valued):
  • deep understanding of Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance data models, including:
  • policy (coverages, endorsements, limits)
  • claims (loss events, reserves, payments)
  • billing (premium calculations, payment schedules)
  • underwriting (risk assessment, profitability metrics)
  • familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements impacting insurance data (e.g., state filings, statutory reporting)
  • ability to translate business concepts (loss ratio, combined ratio, underwriting profitability) into data models and metrics
  • experience designing data products for insurance use cases such as:
  • underwriting profitability marts
  • claims analytics and fraud detection
  • policy lifecycle reporting
  • knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ACORD data models) is a plus
  • Bring education or experience from: P&C insurance:
  • domain knowledge (policy, claims, billing, underwriting) and awareness of regulatory considerations
  • orchestration: Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
  • ingestion: Fivetran or Airbyte
  • cataloging/observability: Alation, Monte Carlo, Acceldata, or similar
  • AI/ML integration: RAG architecture; using AI to augment SDLC and test
  • experience in AWS/Azure/GCP

Responsibilities

  • own and evolve the Modern BI & Data Engineering Playbook, including templates for dbt, Git/GitHub workflows, and CI/CD pipelines
  • architect Snowflake end to end: RBAC, workload isolation, performance optimization, cost governance, environment structure, and naming conventions
  • define enterprise data modeling standards including conformed layers and reusable domain-level data products
  • establish and govern enterprise CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, documentation, and deployment
  • create and maintain standardized dbt project structures, macros, testing frameworks, and reusable starter templates
  • develop cloud-native and on-prem hybrid architecture patterns for consistent security and deployment
  • standardize orchestration patterns using Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
  • implement DataOps principles including data-as-code, quality checks, lineage, monitoring, and automated alerting
  • drive component-based governance to ensure reuse and eliminate redundant BI and ETL pipelines
  • champion a federated yet governed model for BI and data product development
  • implement discoverability and lineage to enable teams to reuse and extend existing components
  • embed as a player-coach with domain teams to co-develop patterns and pipelines
  • lead workshops and mentor engineers on Snowflake, dbt, Git, CI/CD, and analytics engineering best practices
  • design component layers that support AI capabilities such as RAG and analytics assistants
  • integrate AI capabilities into the SDLC, including automated testing and documentation enrichment
  • partner with Portfolio and Service Management to lead incremental migrations from legacy BI/ETL tools to the modern stack
