About The Position

Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. (GSEC) is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative organized in 1984 to provide low-cost, reliable electric power and energy to its 16 Member cooperatives. Golden Spread’s 16 Member systems provide service to approximately 320,000 electric meters serving member-consumers located in the Panhandle, South Plains and Edwards Plateau regions of Texas, an area covering 24% of Texas land mass, and in the Oklahoma Panhandle, Southwest Kansas and Southern Colorado. Golden Spread owns two natural gas fueled generation plants and a wind farm, all located within the Panhandle and South Plains regions of Texas. With approximately 1,756 megawatts of owned generation, Golden Spread prides itself on reliably and efficiently meeting Members’ power supply needs with a flexible and diverse generation fleet that can maximize the benefits of participation in both the Southwest Power Pool and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. Overview of Information Technology (IT) Department The IT department is responsible for ensuring the technology tools and resources utilized throughout the Cooperative are operational and secure. The department’s goal is to support and enable Golden Spread employees to be successful in their use of technology by boosting efficiency, establishing governance for the proper use of technology, and providing the systems needed to perform their job responsibilities. Each member of the IT department fulfills an important role in the Cooperative. The primary responsibilities of these members include aspects of system and network administration, technical support, application development, compliance, training, and cyber security.

Requirements

  • Must be a college or university student, preferred junior or senior, pursuing a degree in information technology, computer science, computer information systems or related field of study.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in analyzing the current application architecture and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Participate in coding, testing, and implementing application upgrades under supervision.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot application issues, including performance and functionality problems.
  • Collaborate with team members to design and develop new features or enhancements.
  • Research and recommend best practices for application development and modernization.
  • Document technical changes, processes, and troubleshooting steps for future reference.
  • Communicate findings and progress updates to manager.
  • Perform testing to ensure upgrades meet functional and security requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
