On-Call IT Field Technician – PC, Mac, Printer & Scanner Support 📍 Location: Multiple U.S. Cities (Local, Onsite Support) 💼 Job Type: Independent Contractor (1099) 💰 Pay: $35/hour (on-site) 🗓 Schedule: Flexible – You accept jobs based on your availability ⚠️ Important Note This is an on-call, 1099 independent contractor role with no guaranteed hours . About Geeks on Site Geeks on Site has been delivering trusted, on-site IT and technical support to homes and businesses nationwide for over 20 years. We’re expanding our network of skilled on-call technicians to meet growing demand for in-person support — including computers, networks, printers, and more. About the Role We’re hiring field IT technicians who can confidently support a wide range of tech needs for residential and small business customers. This includes troubleshooting PCs and Macs , resolving network issues , and repairing or configuring printers/scanners — including issues like Canon MF printer network setup or G-series ink absorber error codes (e.g., 1700). You’ll be dispatched to customer sites, work independently, and complete service calls efficiently and professionally.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of field IT support experience , including computer and printer work
  • Familiarity with Canon , HP , and other common printer brands
  • Knowledge of error code troubleshooting (e.g., Canon code 1700, boot issues, driver conflicts)
  • Experience with both Windows (10/11) and macOS troubleshooting
  • Must have personal tools (bootable USB, screwdriver set, etc.)
  • Reliable vehicle and valid driver's license
  • Smartphone with camera and data for documentation and communication
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a professional demeanor

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair hardware/software issues on Windows and macOS systems
  • Resolve boot errors, OS issues, and login problems
  • Set up or troubleshoot Wi-Fi and wired internet connections
  • Replace or upgrade hardware (HDD, RAM, cooling fans, etc.)
  • Configure or connect printers and scanners (Canon, HP, Brother, etc.)
  • Address common printer error codes (e.g., ink absorber, paper feed, connectivity)
  • Perform general maintenance on multifunction printers (MFPs)
  • Reinstall operating systems using bootable USBs or recovery media
  • Install remote tools or shortcuts as requested
  • Communicate clearly with customers and provide basic post-service support
  • Document service visits and escalate complex issues as needed
