About The Position

Collins Aerospace Global Security Services (GSS) is seeking a Cyber Defense Analyst Level 2 to support cybersecurity operations and defensive monitoring for classified and regulated business environments. In this role, you will provide foundational cybersecurity support under the guidance of senior analysts and team leads. You will assist with monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on security events and vulnerabilities across multiple networks and systems. You may also serve as a Data Transfer Agent, ensuring the secure handling and transfer of classified or sensitive information in compliance with established policies and regulations. This role provides a strong entry point into the cybersecurity profession, offering mentorship and exposure to operational, compliance, and technical aspects of cyber defense in a high-assurance environment. This position is onsite at any Collins Aerospace location. This is an onsite position in Cedar Rapids, IA RTX is a provider of SkillBridge Fellowship opportunities for transitioning service members to gain an in-depth understanding of the aerospace and defense business from some of the most respected leaders and engineers in the industry. To be eligible for a SkillBridge, you must meet the following requirements: Must be on Active-Duty orders in the U.S. Armed Forces Must be eligible to participate per DoD Instruction 1322.29. Must have all TAP and transition requirements completed prior to the start date. Must receive approval from Unit Commander or O4+ in the chain of command.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • An active U.S. government security clearance is needed prior to start date.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Entry-level cybersecurity experience or internships, including basic network, system, or data security tasks.
  • Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX), networking concepts (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs), and cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with DoD RMF, NISPOM, and basic regulatory/compliance requirements preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in a team-oriented environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in cybersecurity operations centers (SOCs), incident monitoring, or helpdesk/IT security support roles.
  • Experience as a Data Transfer Agent in a classified or controlled environment.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, ACAS) and security monitoring solutions (SIEMs).
  • CompTIA Security+, Network+, or other entry-level cyber certifications.
  • Familiarity with security incident handling, reporting, and escalation procedures.
  • Ability to operate in a classified or multi-level secure environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze security alerts, events, and logs to identify potential cybersecurity incidents and vulnerabilities.
  • Support the implementation of cybersecurity controls, ensuring compliance with RMF, DAAPM, JSIG, NISPOM, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Assist in the secure handling, transfer, and distribution of classified or sensitive data, ensuring adherence to information transfer policies and procedures.
  • Escalate potential incidents or policy violations to senior analysts or supervisors, providing clear documentation and initial analysis.
  • Participate in continuous monitoring activities, including vulnerability scans, log reviews, and automated reporting tools.
  • Support audit, compliance, and assessment activities as directed by senior staff.
  • Maintain operational awareness of cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and trends to support proactive defense measures.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure accurate, timely, and complete reporting of cybersecurity activities.
  • Follow established standard operating procedures, checklists, and guidance to maintain compliance and operational consistency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Cyber Defense or Security Operations leadership team.
