Koniag Data Solutions is seeking a motivated Junior Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to support our cybersecurity efforts for the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE NNSA). This entry-level role offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in system security authorization, risk assessment, and compliance with federal cybersecurity requirements. The ideal candidate will have foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles and a willingness to learn the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process. Candidates must be eligible for the appropriate security clearance. Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to: The Junior ISSO will work under the supervision of senior security personnel to assist with system, application, and hardware authorization activities. The role will provide exposure to Information System Security Plans (ISSPs), Risk Assessments, Security Baselines, and other security documentation. Principal responsibilities include: Authorization Support: Assist in the collection and organization of documentation required for system authorization packages Support the development and maintenance of Information System Security Plans (ISSPs), Risk Assessments, and Security Baselines Help prepare authorization packages for review by the ISSM and submission to the AO/AODR Learn and apply the Risk Management Framework (RMF) methodology to system authorizations Support both initial authorization and re-authorization processes Maintenance Activities: Assist in maintaining security documentation according to organizationally defined schedules Support continuous monitoring activities for assigned systems Help track compliance with security requirements and identify potential issues Document system changes that may affect security posture General Support: Participate in security meetings and provide administrative support as needed Learn about AO-approved risk boundaries and risk tolerance levels Assist with tracking the onboarding and termination of contractor personnel from a security perspective Support the development of work products that meet Enterprise Cybersecurity Program requirements Attend meetings, briefings, and presentations as part of the learning process Work collaboratively with other team members and contractors supporting NA-IM and NNSA

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • 0-2 years of experience in IT, cybersecurity, or related fields
  • Basic understanding of information security principles and concepts
  • Willingness to pursue NNSA and/or DoD 8140 training requirements
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices
  • Familiarity with security documentation and compliance
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow processes and procedures consistently
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and frameworks
  • Ability to work effectively in team environments
  • Basic knowledge of networking and system security concepts
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance

Nice To Haves
