About The Position

DQE Communications is looking for an ISP Network Engineer. Our ideal candidate will serves as a technical leader and escalation point for complex network incidents and customer issues. This role is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, lab-based replication of network events, and driving resolution of service impacts across our infrastructure. In addition to network support, the engineer contributes to the design, roadmap, and implementation of DQE’s Metro Ethernet, IP transport, and management networks. This position works cross-functionally with Product Management, Engineering, and Service Delivery teams to create, enhance, and support scalable, high-performance services. Must be local to the Pittsburgh area. Hybrid work environment.

Requirements

Ability to explain and communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build consensus across multi-disciplinary teams.
Expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues.
Advanced experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
7+ years of experience in networking, telecommunications, or related industries.
Strong understanding of optical fiber characteristics and IP transport principles.
Proven expertise in MPLS, BGP, iBGP, OSPF, QoS, and Metro Ethernet technologies.
Vendor-specific certifications (e.g., JNCIP, CCNP, JNCIE, CCIE) required.

Experience with network automation platforms and processes highly desired.

Responsibilities

Monitor and analyze network performance and operational anomalies affecting end-customer connectivity.
Serve as high level of escalation for customer technical support and NOC-reported alarms.
Administer ISP core infrastructure, including Juniper and Nokia routers, DNS, web servers, and email servers.
Design and implement customer IP/Transport network solutions including routers, switches, and firewalls.
Lead and manage complex network projects, including hardware specification, testing, proof-of-concept development, and scheduling.
Document and train Service Operations teams on network systems and operational procedures.
Develop enterprise-grade ISP and Managed Service solutions tailored to customer requirements.
Partner with Sales Engineering to streamline project workflows and engage with stakeholders on solution design and implementation.
Support the development and launch of new network products and services.
