ABOUT THE ROLE: The Space Component Security Specialist serves as a dedicated security advisor providing direct, on-site support to Space Component Commands. Operating within the Integrated Security Enterprise (ISE) framework, your primary mission is to ensure the security of theater-specific space operations. Secondarily, you will act as a critical link to headquarters-based security discipline experts by collecting operational data and providing field insights that inform the development of new security policies, processes, and digital products. Each role is aligned with a specific geographic theater - this opening will be on-site at the following location and aligned to the following theater: Vandenberg SFB, CA: Supporting INDOPAC operations.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5–8 years of professional experience in government or industrial security, specifically supporting DoD or Intelligence Community (IC) programs.
  • Security Breadth: Must possess broad, hands-on experience across two of the three security disciplines, including Physical Security (PHYSEC), alongside: Personnel Security (PERSEC), and/or Industrial Security (INDUSEC); Information Security (INFOSEC) experience is “nice to have.”
  • Physical Security Depth: Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of ICD 705 and related DoD/IC physical security policies.
  • Systems: Experience with physical access control systems, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and alarm monitoring processes.
  • Clearance: Active Secret security clearance is required, with the ability to be granted an Interim Top Secret (TS) and subsequent SCI eligibility. Candidate must be a United States citizen and capable of maintaining eligibility up to the Top Secret/SCI level within 45 days of hire.
  • Space Domain Knowledge: Proven understanding of the unique security requirements associated with space systems and ground stations.
  • Information Management: Ability to accurately collect, analyze, and report technical security data to remote expert teams.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in National Security, Cybersecurity, or a related field (additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
  • Travel: Up to 10%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Information Security (INFOSEC) and professional certifications such as SFPC, SPSC, or CISSP.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Command Support: Serve as the primary security point of contact for Space Component Command leadership and staff to ensure mission-critical assets are protected.
  • Data Collection & Reporting: Gather field-level data and operational metrics to provide security discipline experts with the information needed to refine ISE policies and digital tools.
  • Physical Security: Ability/awareness to support construction security activities for new SCIF builds or modifications to existing facilities.
  • Assist with the review of construction plans, drawings, and change requests to ensure alignment with physical security requirements.
  • Coordinate with facilities, construction, and IT teams to ensure maintenance and upgrades are executed in compliance with ICD 705.
  • Program Protection: Implement and maintain Program Protection Plans (PPPs) for sensitive space systems and ground components within the theater.
  • Liaison Operations: Coordinate security protocols with host nation partners and inter-agency stakeholders to ensure alignment across the theater of operations.
  • Risk Mitigation: Conduct localized risk assessments and vulnerability analyses of space-related facilities to identify and report security gaps.
  • Security Readiness: Deliver specialized security briefings and training to command personnel to ensure a high state of readiness and compliance.
  • Feedback Loop: Provide continuous feedback to the ISE Product team regarding the performance and utility of digital security products in the field.
