Reporters/Researchers work in person in the IRW newsroom for 8 - 10 weeks in the summer months, starting on or around June 1st. Applications are open to undergraduate and graduate students from universities across the country for those seeking to sharpen their investigative reporting skills. Duties include research, fact-checking, filing public-records requests, analyzing data, interviewing subjects and experts, and other tasks as they arise. At the direction of IRW editors and our journalism publishing partners, interns may work on stories across a wide range of topics, including police use of force to political funding to the release of toxic chemicals in water and air. These stories often focus on the accountability of government agencies. American University and the Investigative Reporting Workshop does not provide housing or transportation.
