As a Revenue Agent (Examiner) at the GS-13 grade level, you will play a crucial role in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by independently examining and investigating complex income tax returns filed by individuals and organizations. This position requires a strong background in accounting and the ability to interpret and apply tax law effectively. You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive analytical examinations of tax returns to determine tax liability and identify any violations of Federal tax statutes. Your recommendations may lead to criminal prosecution or civil penalties, emphasizing the importance of fairness and impartiality in your work. In this role, you will utilize your extensive knowledge of accounting techniques and investigative audit methods to address various tax issues. You will work both independently and as part of a team, planning and conducting examinations that may involve intricate accounting systems and complex financial operations. Your responsibilities will include evaluating priority issues identified during the examination process, adjusting the scope of examinations based on feedback, and collaborating with senior agents and other specialists to ensure consistent application of tax law. You will also conduct independent examinations of the largest and most complex exempt organizations, making quasi-legal determinations regarding their tax-exempt status. This position requires a keen eye for detail, as you will need to detect subtle indications of fraud and prepare statutory Notices of Deficiency for complex cases. Your work will contribute significantly to the IRS's mission of ensuring compliance with tax laws and supporting the funding of essential domestic programs and national defense.
