About The Position

Under the supervision of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, this position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the irrigation systems for all parks located within the District boundaries. Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of irrigation equipment, irrigation systems, and small pumps. Also performs a wide variety of other landscape maintenance duties. This position must work well independently and with a team.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of electricity and hydraulics relating to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers.
  • Knowledge of various types of pumps and pump systems.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in grounds and landscape work.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skill installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation systems.
  • Experience using computerized work order and scheduling systems.
  • Knowledge of water conservation practices and local irrigation regulations.
  • Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written direction.
  • Must have the ability to perform heavy manual labor: shoveling, digging, lifting, pushing, pulling, and dragging.
  • Work is performed under conditions that provide exposure to some or all, but not limited to the following: dirt, fumes, cold/hot weather, noise, vibration, oil, pesticides, and water.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds to remove debris, load pumps, and remove sod and other duties as assigned.
  • Stoop, bend, and crouch for extended periods of time; and work in confined spaces.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of irrigation or related field experience
  • Valid unrestricted Colorado Driver License required with a safe driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Toro EXI systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of simple and moderately complex irrigation systems.
  • Responsible to operate irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water.
  • Repairs irrigation systems, pipes, valves, sprinkler clocks and irrigation heads as needed.
  • Conducts tests on completed irrigation systems for proper functioning of valves and timers.
  • Locates, excavates, and repairs or replaces damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Completes requests for irrigation parts and supplies.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance on sprinkler heads and pumps.
  • Read and interpret irrigation plans, schematics, and work orders.
  • Respond to service calls and support emergency repairs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance and safety standards, company policies, and local water regulations.
  • Assists in constructing and installing athletic and playground equipment including fencing, bleachers, picnic tables, and concrete walkways and decking.
  • Operates Park maintenance equipment such a dump trucks, backhoes, front loaders, and power tools such as mowers, edgers, and blowers; maintains hand tools and assigned equipment.
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions related to the work performed.
  • Trash clean-up in parks including trash cans and debris removal.
  • Accurately document labor, materials, and completed work in the work order and timekeeping systems.
  • Assists other staff members in completion of assigned tasks and projects throughout the District.
  • Assists with canal and pond maintenance.
  • Assists with snow removal duties as required.
  • Assists with minor building maintenance repairs.
  • Assists with tree maintenance for all parks, including cutting, hauling and use of chipper.
  • Assists with mowing, weed control, lawn maintenance, trimming and pruning bushes, trees and shrubs.
  • Assists with other District duties as requested.
