Ironworker Structural Welder

Performs duties to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural
steel members to form completed structures or structure framework. This is
accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities.
Ironworkers and structural welders are essential professionals in the
construction and maintenance of various structures.
They
are
responsible
for
assembling
and
securing
metal
frameworks,
often
at
great
heights,
to support
buildings,
bridges,
and
industrial
facilities.
Work
involves the fabrication and transportation of structural components like beams
and columns, and the operation of heavy machinery for positioning these
elements.
Ironworkers typically work in teams and must follow strict safety protocols, in
rigging, welding, blueprint reading, and safety.

Requirements

• Applicants must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States. Austin Industries is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.
• Education – no minimum education requirements.
• Experience – 4 years of Journeyman level experience.
• Certification/License: NCCER, a Valid TWIC Card and Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Reads blueprints and selects required material for construction.
• Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
• Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable or rope.
• Guides structure being lifted into proper position and aligns rivet holes with corresponding holes
• Drives drift pins through rivet holes.
• May assist in lifting, positions and securing of materials and work pieces during installation.
• Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level. Bolts align members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
• Bolts aligned structures to keep them in position until permanently riveted, bolted or welded into place.
• Other duties as assigned.
