About The Position
As an Ironworker Journeyman at Mortenson Construction, your primary responsibilities will involve marking, positioning, and securing structural steel members to reinforce concrete or building structures. This role is critical in ensuring the integrity and safety of construction projects. You will be expected to set up and inspect rigging properly, run site levels, and check in truck deliveries against the bill of lading upon arrival. Additionally, you will be responsible for counting bars and bundles of rebar, dobies, and wire mesh, directing forklifts or cranes to unload delivery trucks, and organizing rebar accordingly. Your duties will also include using pliers to tie rebar intersections with tie wire, splicing mats or rebar sections together with short rebar dowels, and understanding building codes and requirements. You will be required to cut excess rebar ends and miscellaneous pieces using a gas cut saw or cutting torch, install mechanical rebar splices by bolting or welding ends together, and install caps on vertical rebar dowels for safety. Furthermore, you will determine the number, size, shape, and location of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions, and bend steel rods using hand tools or a rod-bending machine. As an Ornamental Ironworker, you will also be responsible for installing prefabricated ornamental ironwork. Mortenson Construction emphasizes a culture of leadership, teamwork, and accountability.
