About The Position

As an Ironworker Industrial Journeyman, you will perform duties to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks. Austin Industrial offers premier self-perform maintenance, construction, and soft craft services to leading industrial companies across the U.S., serving various sectors including food and agriculture.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in the Industrial Ironworker craft.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read and speak fluent English for safety reasons.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprints and selects required material for construction.
  • Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
  • Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable or rope.
  • Guides structure being lifted into proper position and aligns rivet holes with corresponding holes
  • Drives drift pins through rivet holes.
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level.
  • Bolts aligned structures to keep them in position until permanently riveted, bolted or welded into place.
